- GIF [Graphics Interchange Format] (tm) is a new standard developed by
- CompuServe for the telecommunications industry. It is CompuServe's
- goal to make this a universal standard with no restrictions on its
- incorporation into software as long as the following statements are

- CompuServe has built into the GIF standard enough flexibility and
- extensibility to be a viable product for many years to come. We would
- like YOU to share in the knowledge and support this exciting new
- technology.
-
- CompuServe prefers all of the popular graphics based computers to have
- a level of GIF support. This would include GIF encoders and decoders
- written for microcomputers as stand-alone software, as a part of
- telecommunications software and for host computer software
- applications.
-
- In return, CompuServe will provide you with individualized support to
- create your own GIF products. This will include complimentary access
- to an area containing microcomputer language source files for GIF,
- host based library routines used in conjunction with GIF and direct
- contact with CompuServe Associates knowledgeable in the GIF
- technology. Therefore, it is necessary for CompuServe to qualify
